Anticancer Potency of Copper(I) Complexes Against a Range Cancer Cell Lines: A Review

The copper(I) complexes of N,N-diimine, N,O- and/or N, S-bidentate systems perform significant dose-dependent anticancer activity toward various cell lines viz. MCF-7, LNCap, PSN-1, A431, BxPC3, H157, A2780, HeLa, MDA-MB231, MGC-803 etc. can cross the cellular plasmalemma that results in accumulation copper ion cancer cells, exhibit effect and overcome multidrug resistance because these slightly induce DNA cleavage as a result limited generation reactive oxygen species (ROS). Copper(I) significantly higher broad-spectrum antiproliferation apoptosis via mitochondrial pathway than their corresponding Cu(II), Co(II), Pd(II), Ni(II) complexes. inhibit cells not only ROS but also interactions possibly by attacking sugar-phosphate backbone due to oxidative partial dissociation behavior. Copper(II/I) are able cleave hydrolytic caspase-dependent-mitochondrial-mediated production or blocking progression cycles. In many cases, modification organic moiety placement electronegative substituent near metallic center have been found enhance potency manner. Thus may be used better drugs with multiple modes action compared copper(II) having behavior empty site on during dissociation.
